27 Weeks and Hello Third Trimester!!!

This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (*Actually last week he weighed 2.7 pounds) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with his legs extended. He's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing his eyes, and perhaps even sucking his fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if he were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother him, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.The baby's taste buds are fully developed now too (with more taste buds than he will ever have outside the womb, actually). Need a taste test? If mom eats some spicy foods, the baby will be able to taste the difference in the amniotic fluid. Most babies will respond to that spicy kick by hiccuping.
Most babies this age, will like to snuggle in a slightly curled position inside the uterus (thus the term "fetal position") The baby will now have short hairs on his head. The survival rate for babies born at 27 weeks is 85%!! (of the surviving infants, the rate of medical complications is about 40%.)

Well....Goodbye second trimester and HELLO THIRD TRIMESTER!!!! I have to admit I am a little sad to see the 2nd trimester gone- it was a good trimester for me!! No more sickness and a lot more energy. The 3rd trimester begins the countdown to baby and the final stretch... we have 89 days to go (and that is if we make it to March 6th... but whose counting!) We are getting ready for the baby as much as you can prepare for something you have never done before! We are signed up for all of our classes which start in January! We are fully registered at Buy Buy Baby & Babies R Us (Click the links to see our registries!) The crib is supposed to arrive this week and we have started clearing out our guest bedroom/soon-to-be nursery. (YAY!!) The fabrics are picked out for his bedding, and my shower is scheduled for January 9th! (Save the date!) A lot is falling into place and we are just so excited to see our little guy! Happy Monday!!
