Our baby boy now weighs close to 2 pounds and measures 14 inches from head to heel. (The size of an English Hothouse Cucumber...as shown above...and for the record- y'all requested me to find more pictures since my main website only gave us month by month pictures from this point on. This might be a reason why the other website chose to do month by month...lol)
The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. The baby's brain wave activity is also kicking in, which means your little one can not only hear noises but can now respond to them. Not in so many words, of course, but with an increase in pulse rate or activity.
He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.
The Baby is soaking up your antibodies, getting his immune system ready for life outside the womb. The baby's eyes, which have been closed for the past few months (so that the retina, the part of the eye that allows images to come into focus, could develop), are now beginning to open. What this means its that the baby is beginning to see whats going on now! (Unfortunately the view in the womb isn't all that exciting.) He'll soon be practicing the blink...perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.
The survival rate for babies born at 26 weeks is 80%; of the surviving infants, the rate of medical complications is about 45%. We are now less than 100 days to our due date!! 98 days to be exact! That seems so close...yet so far away! Time is really flying! I cannot believe November is almost over! We hope everyone is having a blessed Thanksgiving break!
